A single VMD file can be used to handle (parse, generate, or transform) any number of different message types; each with potentially different mapping logic. The Create Message Wizard allows you to automatically create a message definition and its associated identity. To use the Wizard:
Let's examine how Chameleon recognizes and identifies messages. Typically, HL7 messages are identified using the first two subfields of the Message Type field. In the sample HL7 message, you can identify the Message Type subfields by expanding the tree view of the message in the Browser. In the tree view shown below, you will see that the Message Code is "ADT" and that the Trigger Event is "A04". Chameleon will automatically identify this as a PatientRegister message and fill in the appropriate values in the Identity window.
