The diagram below provides you with a high level view of how an application (built with Chameleon), a VMD file, and the LLP networking components function with one another. Each component is necessary in order to parse, generate, transform, and transport messages between your application and the HL7 world.
How do Chameleon-Built Applications Work?
Did You Know?
The VMD file (i.e. message definition file) is essentially a configuration file and can be edited "outside" your application, meaning you don't have to modify your application's source code to handle differences (e.g. validation, formatting, HL7 versions, etc.) between HL7 vendor implementations.
