Creating the First Message Definition |
The first step in creating the VMD file is to load a sample message into Chameleon's Message Browser to create the first message definition.
- Start Chameleon. Close the News Feed dialog box if it appears.
- In the toolbar, click Browse.
- In the top panel of the Message Browser window, copy or type the following message:

- Click Parse.
- Click the Segments with red icons are unrecognized link.
- In the Import Unrecognized Segments window, from the list box next to Import segments from a library, select HL7 2.5.
- Click Next, Next and Finish.
- Click the Message is unrecognized link.
- In the Create Message Definition Wizard window, click Finish.
Notice that the message definition has an identity of ORU^R01, which means that it will attempt to match all incoming ORU^R01 messages. This will be fixed later in this tutorial.
