Migration Examples

Consider the following code using the old CHM stream methods:

void HL7appEngine::ParseMessage
(
   const CHMchar* pFlatWire, 
   size_t TransportIndex
)
{
   strstream Output;
   Output << "Got Message:" << NewLine();
   Output << CHMlineFeedConverter(pFlatWire);
   OutputStream(Output);
   
   try
   {
      HL7Engine::ParseMessage(pFlatWire, TransportIndex);
   }
   catch (CHMerror& Error)
   {
      OutputLine("Error: ");
      OutputLine(Error.Description());
   }
   catch (...)
   {
      OutputLine("Unknown Exception.");
   }
}

This is now equivalently implemented as:

void HL7appEngine::ParseMessage
(
   const CHMchar* pFlatWire, 
   size_t TransportIndex
)
{
   OutputLine("Got Message:");
   OutputLine(CHMlineFeedConvert(pFlatWire).c_str());
   
   try
   {
      HL7Engine::ParseMessage(pFlatWire, TransportIndex);
   }
   catch (CHMerror& Error)
   {
      OutputLine("Error: ");
      OutputLine(Error.Description());
   }
   catch (...)
   {
      OutputLine("Unknown Exception.");
   }
}

Previously is was possible to stream a CHMerror object to cout:

   catch (CHMerror& Error)
   {
      cout << Error;
      cout << "Enter return to continue." << endl;
      getc(stdin);
   }

Now we must use the Dump() method on the CHMerror object to get a CHMstring, and then get a char* string from the CHMstring.

   catch (CHMerror& Error)
   {
      cout << Error.Dump().c_str();
      cout << "Enter return to continue." << endl;
      getc(stdin);
   }
