Important Information The following example shows you how to generate a GUID in the Message Control ID (MSH.10) field for outbound messages. However, the GUID generator function can be used in other scripts as well. For example, it can be used in the Global Outbound Preprocess Script if you want to generate a GUID for more than one field. It can also be used in inbound scripts if messages do not contain a Message Control ID. In most cases the GUID is needed when generating outbound HL7 messages.

Unix Platforms For Unix platforms, note that strong random number generation must be available through the device located at /dev/urandom, otherwise, an error will be thrown when you try to use the GUID function. | ||

To generate a unique GUID in Chameleon:
- Open the MSH (Message Header) Segment Definition. The MSH Segment Definition appears.

- In the Message Control ID field, click the Outbound Script ellipsis (...) button. The Editing Script window appears.

- Copy and paste the following Python code into the Editing Script window:

- Click OK to confirm your changes.
