Each Configuration represents a type of interface inside your VMD project file. Chameleon makes it possible to have separate configurations for each type of interface that you want to support. This makes it possible to support different flavors of HL7 using a single VMD file. There are only a few components in your VMD file that must remain constant as shown in the following diagram: In the above diagram, the dark blue boxes indicate which components can change within each configuration, while the light blue boxes indicate which components must remain constant. The only other pre-condition that applies when using multiple configurations is that each interface must also be processing the same type of data. For example, if you are developing an interface that must process ADT messages, both configurations should be processing ADT messages as well.
