This documentation page describes a feature of version 3.3 of Iguana. In Iguana 4.0 and later, client executables are called plugins. See Writing a Plugin for more information on plugins in Iguana 4.0 and later.

Your client executable must use the Iguana client executable communication libraries to be able to interact with an Iguana channel. These client executable communication libraries are:

• IGC.dll, which implements the Iguana client executable communication protocol;
• IGC_csharp.dll, which provides the interface to IGC.dll that is used by C# and VB.NET client executables.

These files are included with your Iguana installation.

To use these client executable communication libraries, you must:

• Ensure that IGC.dll is included in the PATH environment variable on your system;
• Copy IGC_csharp.dll to the directory in which your client executable is located, and add it as a reference in the client executable.

To include IGC.dll in the PATH environment variable:

• From Windows, select Start, Settings, Control Panel and System.

• Select the Advanced tab.

• Click Environment Variables.

• In the System variables panel, locate the PATH environment variable, and click Edit.

• Add the full path of the directory that contains IGC.dll. This should be the directory in which Iguana is installed (for example, C:\Program Files\iNTERFACEWARE\Iguana).

• Click OK.

	Your version of Windows may require a slightly different sequence of commands to access the PATH environment variable. See your Windows documentation for details.

To add a reference to IGC_csharp.dll to your client executable:

• Use Windows Explorer to locate the directory in which IGC_csharp.dll is located. This is normally the client\csharp subdirectory of the directory in which Iguana is installed (for example, C:\Program Files\iNTERFACEWARE\Iguana\client\csharp).

• Copy IGC_csharp.dll from this directory to the directory in which your client executable is located.

• From the Project menu, select Add Reference.

• Click the Browse tab.

• Use the directory browser to locate the copy of IGC_csharp.dll that you have just created.

• Click OK to add the reference.
